Jon Lange has provided strategic planning, high-stakes mediation and facilitation, communication and conflict training, coaching, and organizational development services to individuals, groups, and organizations for over three decades.
He has negotiated union-management contracts, facilitated challenging problem-solving efforts, and mediated countless disputes. Jon has assisted leadership teams with strategic planning, goal-setting, and visioning, in addition to providing management consulting and coaching to middle- and top-level managers and CEOs. He brings a breadth of experience, a wise presence, the perfect tools, and proven processes to enhance individual, group, and organizational functioning.
His private sector clients include the Boeing Company, Bear Creek Corporation, ProTool, and Knife River. Jon has provided services for all three Asante hospitals, Providence Medford Medical Center, and half a dozen physician groups. Jon’s nonprofit and government client list includes Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Community Foundation, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Oregon Department of Transportation, and the Ashland Independent Film Festival. He frequently works for the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service; the cities of Medford, Ashland, and Grants Pass; and Jackson, Deschutes, Josephine, and Siskiyou Counties. Jon is past president and chair of the Board of Directors of Resolve: Center for Dispute Resolution and Restorative Practices, the regional Community Dispute Resolution Center. On the roster of the United States Institute of Environmental Conflict Resolution, Jon has facilitated federal environmental policy efforts and mediated national natural resource disputes. He was also selected for membership on the Oregon Solutions roster and was an active participant on the Oregon Consensus Applied Practitioner Team. Jon was previously a board member of the California Center for the Resolution of Environmental Disputes as well as the Advisory Council of the Southern Oregon Small Diameter Timber Collaborative, which he co-facilitated for 18 months.
Jon completed his bachelor’s degree at the Pennsylvania State University before moving to the Northwest, which he has called home ever since. He earned a master’s from Portland State University, worked as a commodities broker for two years, and completed a PhD in communication from the University of Washington. From there, he went to Southern Oregon University, where he was named professor emeritus after 30 years of teaching courses in communication, dispute resolution, leadership, and organizational communication. During those years, Jon served in such roles as chair of the Communication Department, director of training and organization development, chair of the Faculty Civic Engagement Group, and coordinator of the Conflict Resolution Certificate program. He won numerous academic awards and was selected for a leadership honorary. Jon has trained and certified hundreds of mediators. He is the author of more than 30 academic and refereed articles on conflict management and organizational behavior.
In addition to his work on boards, Jon’s community service includes moderating controversial public meetings and debates and offering dozens of public presentations over the years.
In his free time, Jon enjoys white-water kayaking, cross-country skiing, and hiking.
